Audition Frequently Asked Questions

Who can audition?

Experience is not required! We welcome both new and experienced performers. Age requirements and available roles vary by production, so please review the individual audition notice before signing up.

How do I sign up?

Complete the online audition form and select an available audition block. Please provide accurate contact information and list all known scheduling conflicts.

What should I prepare?

Audition preparation depends on the show requirements. When signing up to audition, review the audition requirements. For more information, email info@mcalestertheatre.org.

Should I sing a song from the show?

You may choose any song that highlights your voice and fits the production's style. Unless specifically requested, you do not need to sing from the show.

Will accompaniment be provided?

A Bluetooth speaker will be available for accompaniment tracks. Please have your track downloaded, trimmed, and ready to play before entering the audition room.

Do I need a headshot and résumé?

Please upload a current headshot and résumé with your audition form if possible. You may also bring printed copies with you to the audition.

What should I wear?

Wear something comfortable, appropriate, and easy to move in. You do not need to wear a costume or dress as the character for whom you are auditioning.

What happens when I arrive?

Please check in when you arrive. Auditions are scheduled in blocks, and performers will be called into the audition room individually. BE SURE TO ARRIVE A FEW MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED AUDITION. Once your audition is complete, you may leave.

Will there be a dance audition?

A dance call may be held during callbacks. If invited to callbacks, come dressed and ready to move in comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes.

When will I know if I receive a callback?

Callback notifications will be sent by the deadline listed in the audition information. Please monitor the email address and phone number provided on your audition form.

What if I do not receive a callback?

Not receiving a callback does not necessarily mean you have not been cast. Some performers may be cast directly from their initial audition.

What should I bring to callbacks?

Bring water, comfortable clothes, appropriate shoes, and any materials requested in your callback notice. You may be asked to sing, read scenes, or participate in movement activities.

What if I have scheduling conflicts?

List every known conflict on your audition form. Conflicts do not automatically prevent you from being cast, but complete and honest information is essential when creating the rehearsal schedule.

What if I cannot attend the scheduled auditions?

Contact the production team as soon as possible. Alternate arrangements are not guaranteed but may be considered depending on the production schedule. Email info@mcalestertheatre.org for more information.

How will casting decisions be shared?

Casting information will be communicated using the contact information provided on your audition form. Please do not post casting information publicly until the production team has released the official cast list.

What if this is my first audition?

That is completely okay! Arrive prepared, be yourself, and have fun. Our goal is to provide a welcoming and encouraging audition experience for everyone.
